Another focus area, catering to the basic needs of people on a day to day basis is transportation. Given the rising cost of fuel, community members are challenged with rising costs in commuting back and forth from their homes to their work places. Some of these trips involve people getting on and off multiple stations on daily basis before reaching their final destination.

Our main focus in agriculture was to scale two very important projects that would provide local empowerment and income opportunities for the local community. Based on the research and feedback, we focused on the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming as well as developing low cost Egg Incubators for chicken farmers, both of which would work hand in hand potentially.

IoT Into The Wild Contest

Firstly, our students were able to design a working prototype to monitor our Black Soldier Fly farming initiative in its early stages. We pitched our idea on Seeed's "IoT into the wild" contest where we won the most Enthusiastic award using Seeeds K1100 IoT/AI kit.

Amongst our most challenging yet interesting sectors of interest, health. Our continuous engagements with both private and public sector hospitals and clinics clearly outlined the challenges they face on a day to day basis. Some of the problems were common, while others varied from place to place depending on the size and location.

Tech Sprint Challenge

The challenge was based towards creating simple projects using a variety of sensors, for which students are exposed to learning programming, coding and hands on learning with sensors to create simple projects. Towards the end, students had to present and pitch their ideas on how they are solving challenges in the community with potential for impact and scale

The AWS workshop was held between the 11-18th of July in providing youth with a deeper understanding on how various web services via amazon operate including cloud computing, data management and storage, using servers, creating and deploying local networks and much more. As we await the final examinations to attain certification, a total of 18 students were exposed to the training with great feedback from them and the instructor. Thanks to our partners at the Next Step Foundation for their support!
